As a child, I drew and painted often. My Mom recalls a great deal of scribbling and coloring, until I drew a bird that looked like a bird. I suspect that she was relieved.
My parents bought art supplies for me, paint by number sets (before it was decided that young children shouldn’t have turpentine), crayons of course, and watercolors. I scribbled my way through grade school, studied art in high school, and majored in art in college. I worked for Prentice-Hall (now Simon & Schuster) for 7 years as a commercial artist. My husband and I were blessed with 3 sons. I quilted for about 10 years when they were young, and started keeping a sketch book when it was safe to do so.
I am a fine artist, which means that I focus on developing my personal artistic vision. This is nearly impossible to define. Basically, one just keeps producing artwork, continues to learn technical expertise through reading, drawing, education and spending time with artist friends. My work tends to be loosely realistic, although I do explore abstract expressions also.
I believe that art enriches viewers’ lives, provides respite in a frenzied world, and generally enhances the spiritual side of life. I believe that the Creator shines through creation, and I’d like to reflect that to my best ability. I see my art as a quiet blessing to my fellow travelers.
This video was produced by The Cumberland Shop in Shippensburg, PA, which is one of the shops that sells my artwork. Please take a couple of minutes to view it and see me in my world of art.
